How many women out there have regular dreams about going into labor and giving birth?

I am in my early 30s and have three children of my own, and I regularly have dreams about going into labor. Seems the frequency has slightly decreased since the birth of my last child (she was my last one for sure), but nonetheless I am still having these dreams. I’m not worried, nor does this bother me (in general labor was a happy experience for me), but I am curious how many other women experience this on a regular basis too. Maybe I miss the pregnancy experience or I just like to go back to those experiences (not sure why these dreams happen so often)? Anybody else?

I’m 50 something and I still have them. Labor and birth were awesome experiences for me, and I suppose part of it is just reliving the peak moments of my life. But I also like to think of those dreams as representing the birth of my new self as I move into a different, more liberated, stage of life.

ISTR there’s some trick with picking up a chair that women can do but men can’t. What is it?

I think it had to do with the structure of the hips, which is different in men and women. Maybe it had to do with putting your head against the wall and picking up the chair? Does anyone know it?

Yes, the "trick" is to put a straight back chair against the wall, then lean over it with you forehead against the wall, and pick up the chair.

Women can do it and men cannot. It does have to do with bone structure, however, I cannot remember if it is hips or pelvis. But it is one of the two.

Why are so many romance novels about women falling for their captors?

I work at a book store and sometimes I shelve books in the romance section. I noticed that a fair amount of romance books are about a woman getting kidnapped and then falling for her ‘noble’ captor. What is wrong with women that they would find this appealing? Why do some women seem to want to fantasize about suffering from what is basically Stockholm Syndrome? That seems pretty messed up.

I know – it’s really sick!

I remember when I was a young teenager or even a preteen I read one of my (much) older sister’s "historical romances".

It was about some 18th century chick getting locked in a cabin in the mountains for about a month by some older man she didn’t know and didn’t even see because he wore a mask!!!

But somehow it was all okay, because it was part of some amusing peasant ritual.

I had nightmares about it for weeks, and I could never understand how my sister found it romantic.

I still don’t!!!!

Movie where a woman puts out a personal ad to start dating women as she is sick of men.?

I saw an indie film several years ago about a woman who is fed up with men and decided to try dating women. She puts out a personal ad and starts going out on blind dates. Then of course meets the man of her dreams. What is the name of this movie? Or even the actress in the movie? It’s from early 2000 I think.

Kissing Jessica Stein (2001)
starring Jennifer Westfeldt, Heather Juergensen, Scott Cohen, Jackie Hoffman, Michael Mastro, Carson Elrod, David Aaron Baker, Jon Hamm, Tovah Feldshuh
IMDb synopsis:
Jessica Stein is a hard-to-please journalist/artist who is constantly plagued by people trying to find the right "one" for her. When her ex-fiancée tells her she’s too picky, she answers Helen Cooper’s personal ad looking to make a friend, but gets more than she expects. Jessica doesn’t think there’s just one person out there for everyone, because plenty of people are kissing Jessica Stein.

Amazon.com has it for viewing for a fee:

I haven’t seen the film, but I’ve read about it in the cable guide.

Do you think that video games are a more enjoyable replacement to relationships with women?

A few men that I know prefer video games to relationships with women. Its just that video games are more fun and less hassle than women.

Internet porn is a valid replacement for the odd time that a man feels that he has a "need" to be satisfied.

Uhh yeah speak for yourself man…and I hate video games

Muslims’ America – Women in Islam 1.3

“There’s no sensationalism in just saying, ‘Oh, look at this Muslim. Look! She’s going out and feeding the homeless,’” complains Jill Mraida. “We’re not getting that message out.”

Until now.

VOA’s “Muslims’ America” heads to Florida to find out how women are reaching out to help not only their sisters in Islam, but also their community at large as well as people of other faiths.

Piedad (http://hispanicmuslims.com/piedad/) began as a support group for Spanish-speaking converts to Islam. But the group’s mission soon expanded to accommodate all Muslim women, and then the entire community, regardless of faith.

Khadijah Rivera is one of the bonding forces behind Piedad, she’s not just a social activist, community worker but is also a mother. And when she’s done teaching at a local school in Tampa bay, she teaches English to Burmese immigrant children.

Khadijah says, “When you are helping the needy for food, clothing or shelter, then faith, does not matter, we are all children of God”.

“When you first come to Islam, you are leaving one world behind, but you’re not fully comfortable in the new world yet,” says Jill Mraida who is also trying to maintain balance between her faith and her obligations as a community worker and a mother.

Imran Siddiqui visits with the women of Piedad to learn about their experiences as Muslims, as mothers, and as Americans.
